Divisional Organization

The 90th Infantry Division during WWII was organized along the lines of the standard US Army 'Triangular' Division Structure.
This structure, which employed the use of 3 Infantry Regiments, as opposed to the 4 of the WWI 'Square' division along with the elimination of the Brigade level command, which also was a component of the WWI 'Square' divisional structure, served to create a more flexible divisional structure that was better suited to the rapid and mobile conflict that the US Army anticipated WWII to be.

The Divisional Structure of the 90th Infantry Division in WWII is as follows:

Infantry Regiments:
- 357th Infantry Regiment
- 358th Infantry Regiment
- 359th Infantry Regiment

Field Artillery Battalions:
- 343rd Field Artillery Battalion
- 344th Field Artillery Battalion
- 915th Field Artillery Battalion
- 345th Field Artillery Battalion

Divisional Troops:
- 90th Reconnaissance Troop (Mech)
- 315th Engineer Combat Battalion
- 315th Medical Battalion
- 790th Ordnance Light Maintenance Company
- 90th Quartermaster Company
- 90th Signal Company
- Headquarters Company
- Military Police Platoon
- Divisional Band

In addition to the Organic composition of the 90th Infantry Divisions, the rapid and fluid nature of combat during WWII necessitated the attachment non organic elements to the 90th Infantry Division to better achieve its objectives and the detachment of elements of the 90th Infantry Division to other organizations to meet the extrigencies of combat.
