The M-1938 Legging - An Introduction

The High Roller--
The standard method of wearing leggings prevents any and all brush, dirt, and snow from entering the boot. On the other hand, it also prevents most air circulation over the soldier’s lower body. GI’s quickly realized that it was possible to put the leggings on, but simply roll up the trousers, rather than tuck them in. The trousers would eventually start to roll back down, however, often resulting in a ‘lazy’ appearance on the part of the soldier:

After worn for a few hours. This was - by far - the most popular nonregulation method to wear leggings. For whatever reason, it is much less common to find leggings worn in this fashion with anything other than HBT trousers. This may only be an extension of the prevelance of the HBT trouser in Normandy.
